Watt

It measures the unit of an electrical power.

Wavelength

It is the distance between positive peaks of a signal.  As the frequency increases, and waves get closer together, the wavelength decreases.

Wireless LAN, W-LAN

A wireless LAN is a wireless local area network that uses radio waves as its carrier: where the network connections for end-users are wireless. The main network structure usually uses cables.

Web server

A Web server is a program, which allows Web browsers to retrieve files from computers connected to the Internet.  The Web server listens for requests from Web browsers and upon receiving a request for a file sends it back to the browser.  The primary function of a Web server is to serve pages to other remote computers; consequently, it needs to be installed on a computer that is permanently connected to the Internet.  It also controls access to the server whilst monitoring and logging server access statistics.

Wired Equivalent Privacy, WEP

A wireless security protocol, specified in the IEEE 802.11 standard, which is designed to provide a wireless local area network (WLAN) with a level of security and privacy comparable to that usually expected of a wired LAN.  Security is at two different levels; 40-bit and 128-bit encryption.  The higher the bit number, the more secure will be the encryption.

Wi-Fi Protected Access - Pre-Shared Key, WPA-PSK

This wireless encryption method uses a pre-shared key (PSK) for key management. Keys can usually be entered as manual hex values, as hexadecimal characters, or as a pass phrase. WPA-PSK provides a greater degree of security than WEP.

White Balance (also refer AWB)

In image processing, colour balance is the global adjustment of the intensities of the colours (typically red, green, and blue primary colours).  Colour balance changes the overall mixture of colours in an image and is used for colour correction; generalized versions of colour balance are used to get colours other than neutrals to also appear correct or pleasing.  Image data acquired by electronic image sensors must be transformed from the acquired values to new values that are appropriate for color reproduction or display.  White balance basically means colour balance.  It is a function which gives the camera a reference to "true white" — it tells the camera what the colour white looks like, so the camera will record it correctly. Since white light is the sum of all other colours, the camera will then display all colours correctly.  Incorrect white balance shows up as pictures with orange or blue tints.

Wide Dynamic Range, WDR

This function of our camera is intended to provide clear images even under back light circumstances where intensity of illumination varies excessively.  The WDR allows this camera to filter the intense back light surrounding a subject and thus enhances the ability to distinguish features and shapes on the subject.  WDR cameras, BC3-971P, 951P, are usually recommended for situations where light enters a premise from various angles such as a multi-window room.  WDRA camera placed on the inside of the room will be able to see through the intense sunlight or artificial light coming in.  If indoor security camera is pointed towards a window or an entrance door, you will see the background washed out during daytime. This is very common situation in restaurants and stores which have big glass windows.  To fix this problem, WDR technology is emerged.  The way it works, a camera is fitted with two CCDs. one high speed CCD and one low speed.  The two CCDs take 2 scans of the same image instead of one scan like a conventional camera.  The first CCD scans the images in normal light condition.  After that, the camera scans the second time at high speed to get the image with strong light background.  The image processor then combines the two images into one to provide a balanced image which shows the indoors and outdoors clearly.

Wire

Wire is a conductor, either bare or insulated.

Wired Equivalent Privacy, WEP

WEP is a deprecated algorithm to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. Wireless networks broadcast messages using radio and are thus more susceptible to eavesdropping than wired networks. When introduced in 1997 WEP was intended to provide confidentiality comparable to that of a traditional wired network.  WEP is widely in use. WEP is often the first security choice presented to users by router configuration tools as it provides a level of security that deters unintentional use

Wireless

It is really a misnomer.  A lot of manufacturers make variety of cables needed to build the transmitting infrastructure required to support wireless devices.  Wireless is a technology that allows a device (telephone, pager, modem or satellite dish) to be unconnected from the transmission point of a voice, video or data signal.  Transmission infrastructure required to support such wireless devices is a wired platform of transmission towers and stations that communicate point to point and to telephone central offices.

Wireless Communication

Communication between a computer and another computer or device without wires.  The form of wireless communication provided as part of the Windows operating system uses infrared light to transmit files.  Radio frequencies, as used by cellular and cordless telephones, are another form of wireless communication.

World Wide Web, www

A system for exploring the Internet by using hyperlinks.  When you use a Web browser, the Web appears as a collection of text, pictures, sounds, and digital movies.
